Questions
Is this Mandarin from mainland China or Taiwan?
Mainland Mandarin, in simplified characters with pinyin and tone marks. Some words, like 已读不回 for “left on read”, are heard in both.
What does 520 mean in Chinese?
Said aloud, 520 (wǔ èr líng) sounds close to 我爱你, “I love you”, so 20 May has become an unofficial day for couples. People send gifts and red packets for 520 amounts. It’s one of the lines in the quiz.
What does “你是我的菜” mean?
Literally “you are my dish”, it means “you’re my type”. It’s light and playful, the kind of thing you’d say with a grin rather than a confession.
How spicy does it get?
Mild to spicy, never explicit: from swapping WeChat to 要不要上楼坐坐?, the “come up for a bit?” at the door. Nothing crude.
Is the pack really free?
Yes. A free account keeps all 40 lines in your deck, with audio, an example and a note on when to use each one. No card needed.
